Tulia “Your Transportation Headquarters” for Wind Energy Support
TEDCO envisions an opportunity to facilitate the success of the wind energy industry. In Swisher County it has been announced that we have 7,900 acres under lease to
Iberdrola Renewables Inc. This is a small percentage of the acreage under lease in several of our neighboring counties. The yellow areas shown on the map below are our best estimates of the location based on the attached
newspaper article.
In Tulia we are fortunate to occupy a strategic location in regard to both highway and rail transportation. We see an opportunity to serve as a service center and a source of employee housing for wind energy companies. We are thirty miles from the Briscoe-Floyd wind farm area on SH 86. We are 30-50 miles from the Deaf Smith, Randall & Castro wind farm areas, depending on what access point are used. We are a ideal location for firms that want to serve both areas from one location. Tulia is well equipped to handle residential growth from a utilities standpoint and the schools can easily handle significant enrollment increases with their existing facilities. TEDCO is promoting housing programs based on the short-term needs of the wind energy industry.
The orange routes on this highway map are interstate highways. I-27 runs through Tulia and I-40 is shown running east and west through Amarillo. The blue routes are four lane highways. US 287 is shown going Armstrong County on this map. Tulia has access to US 287 at Estelline via the two-lane SH 86 which is the red east-west highway that runs through Briscoe, Swisher and Castro Counties on this map. Tulia is on the main BNSF rail route between Lubbock and Amarillo.
